Alluzience is a new-to-the-market botulinum toxin type A that takes effect faster, and also lasts longer than other botulinum toxins. Alluzience® for wrinkles has a rapid onset of effect starting from day one, with improvements lasting up to six months.

Is Alluzience what we were all waiting for? I believe it is if you are aiming to come to the clinic less often but still want to get rid of your wrinkles.

Galderma (the world’s largest independent dermatology company) has launched Alluzience, an advanced botulinum toxin. This innovative injection is used to smooth stubborn upper facial lines and folds, which include improving the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows), otherwise known as frown lines.

How does Alluzience work?

Wrinkles form when a muscle contracts and the skin overlying that muscle lacks the elasticity to contract with it. When Alluzience is injected into a muscle it temporarily blocks the nerve signals that tell that muscle to contract, thereby reducing the formation of skin wrinkles in the area.

What happens before treatment?

Prior to receiving a treatment with Tu Aesthetica you will be required to have a face-to-face consultation with an aesthetic doctor. They will assess your medical history, discuss your wants and needs, and devise a personalised treatment plan. They will also make clear the risks and benefits of the treatments, give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have, and together you will decide if the treatment is right for you.

What happens during the treatment?

During the treatment itself your doctor will first assess your anatomy to identify appropriate injection sites and may choose to mark these sites with a pen. They will then apply sterilising solution to these areas and perform the injections.

How long will the procedure take?

Treatment will generally take around 10 to 20 minutes to perform once your consent has been obtained and photos have been taken.

Is it painful?

Very fine needles are used, typically finer than those used for vaccinations. Most patients comment that the treatment is uncomfortable, with some likening it to a short lived bee sting, it has been reported to be more painful than the other toxins that are currently available. But alluzience results? Definitely worth the mild pain!

What are the recommendations after the treatment?

•        Remain upright for 3 hours

•        Avoid rubbing or touching the treated areas for 4 hours

•        Avoid make-up for 24 hours

•        Avoid alcohol and high impact exercise for 24 hours

•        Do not massage the treated areas for 48hrs

•        Stay out of strong sunlight/UV radiation until redness and swelling has resolved

When will I see results?

Unlike other standard botulinum toxin brands such as Bocouture, Azzalure, Dysport and Botox which take about 7-14 days to have visible effects, Alluzience starts working within 24 hours after injection.

How long will the effects last?

Alluzience lasts up to 6 months before a patient would be due for another session. This is another benefit it has over other botulinum toxins, as they last only three to four months before another session.

Are there any risks involved?

As with all medical procedures there are certain risks involved, but as all anti-wrinkle injections with Tu Aesthetica are performed by a GMC registered doctor these are minimised and are considered a very safe procedure. During your consultation, your doctor will discuss these thoroughly as part of the consent process.

•        Common side effects related to the procedure itself include mild swelling, bruising, and redness where the needles enter the skin. These can occur even with the most skilled injector. A mild headache or flu like symptoms for around 24 hours are also not uncommon.

•        Less commonly; temporary facial paralysis, dropping of the upper eyelid, swelling of the eyelid, dropping of the eyebrow, tired eyes or dim vision, dry eye, twitching of muscle around the eye, watering eyes.

•        Very rarely there are serious problems such as blurred or double vision, or eye allergy, hypersensitivity, rash.

You will be given your doctor’s mobile telephone number in case you need urgent advice.

Who will perform my anti-wrinkle injections?

At Tu Aesthetica your safety is our number one priority, and therefore, with us you will only have your injections performed by a GMC registered  doctor. Our doctor engages in regular training to remain current, skilled, and professional in the treatments he provides. Dr Ben Morris also works within the NHS and undergoes regular appraisal and revalidation.

It is important that you feel comfortable with your Doctor, not only in their ability and knowledge, but also on a personal level. We encourage all our patients to carefully research the practitioner offering them treatment, and only to make an informed decision on proceeding with treatment once they are comfortable with their experience, their qualifications, and their manner.

How is it priced?

At Tu Aesthetica we price the anti-wrinkle treatments by the number of injections and dose needed. There are standard doses, but these may need to be adjusted for individual patients – both because of individual anatomy, and depending on the end result they are looking for. For example, larger doses are typically needed for men because of a greater muscle mass, or for patients looking for a more ‘frozen’ look. Because of this we offer a free review at around two weeks where if necessary the dose can be adjusted, although this may incur a further charge. This dose adjustment will be recorded so that for repeat treatments in the future it should be possible to ensure a precise dose in just one visit.

Are there people that are not suitable for Alluzience?

Yes, there are some exceptions to people who can take alluzience injections. These sets of people include; pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and people with chronic muscle or nerve conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, or Eaton-Lambert syndrome.
