Frequently Asked Questions

Prior to receiving a treatment with Tu Aesthetica you will be required to have a face-to-face consultation with an aesthetic doctor. They will assess your medical history, discuss your wants and needs, and devise a personalised treatment plan. They will also make clear the risks and benefits of the treatments, give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have, and together you will decide if the treatment is right for you.

During the treatment itself your doctor will first assess your anatomy to identify appropriate injection sites and may choose to mark these sites with a pen. They will then apply sterilising solution to these areas and perform the injections.

Treatment will generally take around 10 to 20 minutes to perform once your consent has been obtained and photos have been taken.

Very fine needles are used, typically much finer than those used for vaccinations. Most patients comment that the treatment is only slightly uncomfortable, with some likening it to a short lived bee sting.

  • Remain upright for 3 hours
  • Avoid rubbing or touching the treated areas for 4 hours
  • Avoid make-up for 24 hours
  • Avoid alcohol and high impact exercise for 24 hours
  • Do not massage the treated areas for 48hrs
  • Stay out of strong sunlight/UV radiation until redness and swelling has resolved

Results of botulinum toxin are not immediate and generally start being noticed after 2-3 days, and take 2 weeks to show their full effect. You can expect to see a pleasing improvement in the appearance of the dynamic lines treated at the end of this two week period.

The duration can vary from person to person, but generally lasts up to 3 months.

In order to maintain the effect, it is advised to repeat the treatments around once every 3 months. Once the effects of a treatment cycle have worn off, the areas will simply return back to their previous condition and wrinkles are likely to return.

As with all medical procedures there are certain risks involved, but as all anti-wrinkle injections with Tu Aesthetica are performed by a GMC registered doctor these are minimised and are considered a very safe procedure. During your consultation, your doctor will discuss these thoroughly as part of the consent process.

  • Common side effects related to the procedure itself include mild swelling, bruising, and redness where the needles enter the skin. These can occur even with the most skilled injector. A mild headache or flu like symptoms for around 24 hours are also not uncommon.
  • Less commonly there is a risk of asymmetry in the final effect such as ptosis (eyelid or brow droop) or ‘Spock eyebrows’. Sometimes these can be reversed by further injections or eye drops, occasionally the only option is waiting for the effect of the botulinum toxin to wear off.
  • Very rarely there are serious problems such as blurred or double vision, or allergic reactions leading to anaphylaxis.

You will be given your doctor’s mobile telephone number in case you need urgent advice.

Wrinkles form when a muscle contracts and the skin overlying that muscle lacks the elasticity to contract with it. When botulinum toxin type-A (“Botox” is actually the brand name of just one type of botulinum toxin medication) is injected into a muscle it temporarily blocks the nerve signals that tell that muscle to contract, thereby reducing the formation of skin wrinkles in that area. Very fine needles are used to inject small amounts of botulinum toxin into the specific muscles required.

Treatment with botox and other injectable treatments is still largely unregulated in the UK, allowing for wide variation in the qualifications and experience of practitioners and the standard of treatment provided to patients.

At Tu Aesthetica your safety is our number one priority, and therefore, with us you will only have your injections performed by a currently practising, GMC registered, UK trained doctor. Our doctors engage in regular training to remain current, skilled, and professional in the treatments they provide. All of our Doctors work within the NHS and undergo regular appraisal and revalidation.

It is important that you feel comfortable with your Doctor, not only in their ability and knowledge, but also on a personal level. We encourage all our patients to carefully research the practitioner offering them treatment, and only to make an informed decision on proceeding with treatment once they are comfortable with their experience, their qualifications, and their manner.

At Tu Aesthetica we price the anti-wrinkle treatments by the number of injections and dose needed. There are standard doses and injection patterns for different areas, but these may need to be adjusted for individual patients – both because of individual anatomy, and depending on the end result they are looking for. For example, larger doses are typically needed for men because of a greater muscle mass, or for patients looking for a more ‘frozen’ look. Because of this we offer a free review at around two weeks where if necessary the dose can be adjusted, although this may incur a further charge. This dose adjustment will be recorded so that for repeat treatments in the future it should be possible to ensure a precise dose in just one visit.

Prices displayed on our price list are based on use of a single ampoule of botulinum toxin which is usually sufficient for the average treatment, but should a further ampoule be needed this will be charged at a reduced rate.
